The River Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale inspired a painting by
Turner and admiration from John Ruskin, now known as Ruskins
View. The town, granted charter in the 13th Century for fairs,
still holds a Thursday market, and the original market cross
is in the Horsemarket. The town has an excellent range of
specialty shops, attractive 17th and 18th Century inns, and a
fine Norman church. |
