Situated South of the Western Dales is the delightful Market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, set in the beautiful valley of the river Lune and enjoying an enviable position on the fringes of both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Park.

The River Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale inspired a painting by Turner and admiration from John Ruskin, now known as Ruskins View. The town, granted charter in the 13th Century for fairs, still holds a Thursday market, and the original market cross is in the Horsemarket. The town has an excellent range of specialty shops, attractive 17th and 18th Century inns, and a fine Norman church.
